Waste and Resource Mangement
Services:
All offshore oil and gas operations, once they have reached
the end of their lifespan, enter the decommissioning phase,
a process which requires careful management of waste so
that no damage is done to the surrounding environment.
M. Gaze has been supporting these important activities for
many years.
The UK oil and gas sector is vital to our nation’s ability to produce
energy, fuel and specialist raw materials used to make everyday items.
It keeps our lights on and industries moving.
Waste is produced from offshore exploration and production,
gas terminal operations, refineries and, increasingly, from the
decommissioning of ageing offshore assets such as oil rigs.
The average sea platform is made up of three key sections – topside,
jacket and subsea. Each component contains varying proportions of
steel, concrete, hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Decommissioning
is therefore a complex task and involves a number of highly
skilled workers to ensure platforms and wells are dismantled and taken
away safely. In some cases, certain parts of pipes can be left in place to
form artificial reefs for ocean life – however, most are fully cleared to
ensure minimal environmental impact. The process, inevitably, involves
removing various amounts of industrial waste.
M. Gaze supported the oil and gas sector for many years. We are able
to receive and process CCU (cargo carrying unit) wastes, bulk liquid
wastes, general wastes, various recyclable materials and hazardous
wastes, as well as decommissioning wastes. Once the waste is onshore,
we take full responsibility for its processing and safe disposal at our
facility in Norfolk.
More and more oil and gas wells which powered the country’s resource boom are coming to the end of their life. There are around 170 oil installations, 5,000 wells and 10,000 kilometres of pipeline in the North Sea alone – all of this will eventually require decommissioning. It is a legal requirement as per the 1998 Petroleum Act.
Failure to properly manage offshore oil and gas waste, both when operational and during decommissioning, can have fatal consequences on marine life and present health and safety hazards to workers. It can also lead to hefty regulatory fines and reputational damage.
Further still, it is becoming increasingly common for decommissioning projects to be delivered with almost 100% material reuse and recycling rates. M. Gaze is your ideal waste management partner to ensure as much waste is reused and recycled as possible.

Our friendly team are waiting to help.
The safety of our customers, staff, suppliers and the general public is of the highest importance to us. All our services and site operations are carried out in a Covid-19 secure manner. Staff are issued with hand sanitiser, face masks and guidance on the risks of Covid-19 transmission and how to reduce these risks.
Our operations will continue to monitor, follow and adapt to Government and Public Health England advice, and we work with an unwavering focus on
ensuring the safety of all our stakeholders.
