that make them harmful to both people and the planet. We

Hazardous waste is waste that has the potential to bring harm to either humans or the environment. Acid and alkali wastes, for example, can be corrosive while organic solvents may be highly flammable.

• Batteries
• Pesticides
• Some medicines

Hazardous waste comes in the form of containerised gases as well as solids or liquids. There are four key properties typical of hazardous wastes – flammability, corrosivity, reactivity and toxicity. Ask M. Gaze or another qualified professional if you are unsure.
Prioritising health and safety are of critical importance when dealing with hazardous waste to ensure that injury is avoided. Hazardous waste may cause harm in a variety of ways – through skin contact, injection via cuts on sharp materials, ingestion through hand to mouth contact, inhalation, or other.
You cannot treat hazardous waste unless you are qualified to do so. Unlike ordinary waste, it can’t be disposed of in recycling or landfill bins and must be dealt with using appropriate facilities and proper processes.
You have a legal responsibility to store and dispose of hazardous waste in a safe manner. It should be kept in appropriate sealed containers that are stored in a dedicated waste storage area. This will ensure the waste remains secure until it is collected by a qualified waste management professional.
