Waste and Resource Mangement
Services:
Food waste processing and composting, if done properly,
can bring benefits to the environment, the economy and
our local communities. As experts in organic waste, we’re
here to help you to realise these in a simple, hassle-free,
affordable way.
Despite the best efforts of those attempting to end food poverty and
raise awareness of over-consumption, 6.5 million tonnes of food are still
wasted in the UK every year.
At M. Gaze, we want to play our part. We see it as our responsibility to
ensure food and organic wastes are dealt with in the most effective
and efficient manner – to bring benefit to the environment, economy
and our local communities.
Many organic wastes can be composted to recover their nutrient value
and reused as valuable, environmentally friendly fertilisers.
To achieve this, we use a process of integrated recycling and composting
that is differentiated by the production of high-quality compost
suitable for unrestricted use. We shred mixed organic compounds and
feed them into our in-vessel composter, where the ideal conditions and
temperatures are cultivated to accelerate the natural decomposition
process.
M. Gaze thereby ensures food and organic wastes are transformed into
nutrient-filled composts that are suitable and approved for reuse, capable
of sustainably enriching agricultural land.
Not all food and organic wastes can be composted. As a one-stop shop
for waste management services, we are able to provide secure destruction
services for off-specification and out-of-date batches and seized
goods.
Through our custom, tailored service we work to identify and separate
as much compostable and recyclable packaging material as possible.
Compounds that do not fit these criteria are shredded down through
small screens to uphold the security of product and brand identity.
Destruction certificates and video evidence of secure destruction are
available upon request.
Many businesses such as shops, hotels and restaurants need to dispose to foodstuffs, but every organisation’s requirements are unique. Different materials and mixed recyclables such as tins, cooking oil, glass, plastic bottles, cartons, liquids and solids need to be considered. Get in touch for friendly advice on how best to manage your commercial food waste.
Sending food waste to landfill is not only inefficient and inexpensive, but also produces methane greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming. When bacteria breaks down organic matter in the absence of oxygen, methane is produced. Therefore, as waste is compressed in a landfill site, the organic materials decompose anaerobically, and methane gas is sent into the atmosphere.
At M. Gaze we provide transport services right up your street… quite literally. We can safely transfer your waste and keep complete and accurate records for all waste accepted onto our site, monitoring the entire process from collection to destruction. Our 24-hour manned CCTV can be called upon at any time to provide evidence of products being processed properly, safely and efficiently.
Composting is a cost-effective way of ensuring waste becomes a valuable resource. It saves on disposal costs, helps to lower production costs for farmers, and ensures atmospheric carbon is placed back into the ground. It also reduces the amount of rubbish sent to landfill and helps build stronger food ecosystems through the creation of nutrient-rich fertilisers.
We have developed a highly efficient composting process at M. Gaze over the years. Through dewatering and cultivation in our in-vessel composter, we create a bio solid ‘cake’ from compost sludges that typically range from 15-35% in solid content. These bio solids are then blended with a bulking agent and carbon source, such as wood chips.
