Drain Jetting & Pump Service Engineer

Location: Based at Crossways Farm, Thurlton, with regular travel to customer sites throughout East Anglia
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £17.00 per hour with Overtime Available

About The Role

The Drain Jetting & Pump Service Engineer is responsible for operating a dedicated drain jetting vehicle to provide planned and reactive drainage maintenance services for commercial, industrial and domestic customers.

The primary focus of the role is the cleaning and maintenance of pumping stations, wet wells, septic tanks, sewage treatment plants and associated drainage systems. This includes clearing minor blockages, desilting chambers, cleaning pipework and carrying out preventative maintenance to ensure customers’ assets continue to operate efficiently.

In addition to drain jetting activities, the role will support the servicing, installation and repair of pumps and pumping equipment where required. The successful candidate will work to a high standard of safety, professionalism and customer service while representing M. Gaze & Co. Ltd on customer sites.

Core Responsibilities

Drain Jetting & Drainage Services

  • Operate a high-pressure drain jetting vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out planned maintenance of pumping stations, wet wells and drainage systems.
  • Clean and flush rising mains, foul drains and associated pipework.
  • Clear blocked drains, pipework and small sewer blockages using appropriate jetting equipment.
  • Remove silt, debris, grease and other deposits from chambers and drainage infrastructure.
  • Clean septic tanks, sewage treatment plants and associated drainage systems as part of routine maintenance visits.
  • Undertake emergency call-outs for blocked drains and pumping station issues.
  • Carry out CCTV pre-cleaning or preparation works where required.

Pump Maintenance

  • Assist with the servicing and maintenance of pumps, control panels and associated equipment.
  • Support pump installations and replacements.
  • Diagnose basic pump faults and report findings to the Senior Pump Engineer.
  • Remove, clean and reinstall pumps during servicing works.
  • Ensure pumping stations are left clean, operational and compliant following maintenance.

Vehicle & Equipment

  • Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report defects immediately.
  • Maintain the drain jetting unit, hoses, reels, nozzles and ancillary equipment.
  • Ensure all tools, consumables and spare parts are stocked and organised.
  • Keep company vehicles clean, presentable and ready for operation.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Work in accordance with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
  • Comply with confined space, lone working and water jetting safety procedures.
  • Wear and maintain the required PPE for each task.
  • Complete risk assessments and follow site-specific procedures.
  • Report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly.
  • Ensure environmental best practice is followed during all drainage and waste operations.

Administration

  • Complete service sheets, inspection reports and job records accurately.
  • Record photographs before and after works where required.
  • Report any additional defects or remedial work identified on customer sites.
  • Communicate effectively with the office regarding job progress and customer requirements.

Customer Service

  • Represent M. Gaze & Co. Ltd professionally at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service during every visit.
  • Explain completed works and identify future maintenance recommendations where appropriate.
  • Build positive working relationships with customers and site representatives.

Skills & Experience

Essential

    • Full UK Driving Licence.
    • Good mechanical aptitude.
    • Experience operating machinery or mechanical equipment.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Flexible approach to working hours and emergency call-outs.
